Conestoga College Expands Downtown Kitchener Campus at Market Square

Kitchener-Waterloo April 29

In January 2020, Conestoga College opened its modern campus at Market Square in downtown Kitchener. The 85,000 square foot facility welcomed over 1,000 students and faculty members to the downtown core. A move that was celebrated by the Kitchener community.

After a turbulent two years navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, faculty and students have once again returned to the campus to resume in-person learning.

In lead up to this exciting milestone, Conestoga College saw the opportunity to continue to grow its presence within Market Square.

Using a phased approach, the college is expanding its footprint by approximately 30,000 square feet to offer more classrooms and communal areas that will enhance the student learning experience. During the current expansion phase, Conestoga College has absorbed 8,700 square feet of what was previously retail-purposed space.

Our in-house construction team, in collaboration with Ball Construction, NEO Architecture, Rombland Engineers and DFY Studio, repurposed the units into modern teaching spaces and washroom facilities.

“It was great to collaborate with the team of contractors to complete a space that met the requirements set out by the tenant. By working closely with the consultant team, Ball Construction and Conestoga College, we were able to execute the project in a timely and cost-effective manner,” revealed Tom Hearn, Europro KW Construction Project Manager.

“The communication between all of the teams was imperative to the success of the project. Everyone was constantly connected to know the status, milestones, and finding solutions to any hurdles generally associated with construction,” furthered Hearn.

The newly transformed space has been revamped to match the vibrant, tech-forward design found in the basement level of the campus.

Recent updates include, new flooring, colourful paint throughout, upgraded LED lighting, new millwork, introduced primary and accessible washrooms with new flooring and tile, provided AV/IT equipment connectivity and upgraded the sprinkler systems.

The college's future at Market Square and their continued growth throughout the property is both exciting for Europro and the downtown Kitchener community. “We couldn’t be happier to facilitate Conestoga’s growth downtown and are thrilled to continue our partnership with them. Having their support and confidence in our abilities as landlord and project manager means a lot to us and we hope to be able to help them grow further in the future,” concluded Europro KW Director of Property Management & Leasing, Crystal Heenan.
